THREAD FROM REDDIT/NASHVILLE (2014)

HOW DO YOU GUYS FEEL ABOUT THE HADLEY WASHINGTON AREA? I KNOW IT’S GHETTO, BUT DOES ANYONE THINK IT HAS POTENTIAL? WHAT ABOUT HOPE GARDENS AND BUENA VISTA? I’M LOOKING TO BUY A HOUSE AND I WANT TO STAY WITHIN NASHVILLE BUT MY BUDGET IS AROUND THE 150K AREA.

Cashville:

I THINK IT IS AN AWESOME AREA THAT EVENTUALLY WILL GAIN VALUE DUE TO IT’S CENTRAL LOCATION AND PROXIMITY TO THE INTERSTATE--
HOW LONG THAT WILL TAKE IS A GOOD QUESTION THOUGH.
MY BOYFRIEND IS CURRENTLY BUYING A FIXER-UPPER IN THE AREA.

analogart:

THAT WAS WHAT I WAS THINKING. I KINDA CAN’T BELIEVE IT ISN’T ALREADY GAINING VALUE. THANKS!

aDDnTN:

IT IS A HISTORICALLY BLACK AREA AND THOSE ARE MORE RESISTANT TO GENTRIFICATION. HADLEY PARK WAS THE FIRST PUBLIC PARK IN THE USA THAT FREE BLACKS COULD USE.THE COMMUNITY THAT GREW AROUND IT WAS A COMMUNITY OF HARDWORKING, LANDOWNING, BLACK AMERICANS.
THOSE PEOPLES HISTORY OF LIVING IN THAT AREA HAS BEEN CONTINUOUS FOR OVER A HUNDRED YEARS. DON’T EXPECT IT TO EVER GENTRIFY BUT IT SHOULD GAIN VALUE AS PEOPLE MOVE THERE WHO HAVE THE MEANS TO CARE ABOUT THEIR COMMUNITY SUPPORT IT.
